Hyperhidrosis is the presence of excess sweating due to the overactivity of sweat glands in various areas of the body (commonly the axilla or “armpit”). Treatment of this issue through the targeted injection of botulinum A toxin into the affected area helps to reduce the activity of the sweat glands and provide relief from excess sweating for up to 6 months.

Botulinum toxin injections can be used to relax muscles that contribute to fine lines/wrinkles, thin out bulky muscles to improve the overall shape of the face or even reduce the activity of sweat producing glands.
Treatment involves the injection of a very small amount of botulinum toxin into the specific area that is being targeted. Botulinum toxin then binds to receptors in the target area, reducing the reaction to nerve impulses and thus leading the desired result of reducing the activity of the muscle or sweat glands. Over time, these receptors eventually return to full function (several months following treatment) meaning that the effect of the treatment is temporary.
